Public Finance & Infrastructure Tax Associate

About the role

Nixon Peabody is seeking a motivated associate to join its Project Finance and Public Finance Practice Group. The role focuses on tax matters related to public finance, infrastructure finance, and public‑private partnership (P3) transactions, providing high‑quality client service across major U.S. markets.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior tax attorneys on public finance and infrastructure finance transactions, including tax‑exempt bond issuances.
• Analyze federal tax issues, tax credits, and the tax implications of Section 501(c)(3) organizations.
• Support the preparation of tax opinions, memoranda, and client communications.
• Participate in IRS audit responses and related compliance work.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions for complex financing structures.

Required profile

• J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
• Three or more years of experience handling tax issues in public finance or infrastructure finance transactions.
• Excellent judgment, communication skills, and a commitment to client service.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of federal tax law as it applies to public finance.
• Experience with tax credits, Section 501(c)(3) organizations, and IRS audit procedures.
