Project Engineer – Intelligent Transportation Systems

About the role

The Project Engineer – ITS will support field installation, testing, and commissioning of intelligent transportation systems along the SR400 corridor in Georgia. You will coordinate fiber‑optic, power, and device installations while working closely with superintendents, subcontractors, and senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Support field installation, testing, and commissioning of ITS devices such as CCTV cameras, Dynamic Message Signs, detection systems and traffic‑monitoring equipment.
• Coordinate daily ITS activities with field leadership, electrical/ITS subcontractors, roadway crews, utility teams and vendors.
• Review ITS plans, specifications, shop drawings, wiring diagrams and fiber plans; verify field locations, foundations, conduit routing and equipment installations.
• Manage ITS civil work including foundations, trenching, directional drilling, pull boxes and equipment pads.
• Oversee fiber installation, splicing, termination, labeling and testing, including OTDR results.
• Track subcontractor production, manpower, equipment, material deliveries and installation progress.
• Maintain accurate redlines and as‑built records for conduit, fiber routing, splice locations, cabinets, power and communications.
• Develop look‑ahead plans, monitor RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, testing records and technical documentation.
• Monitor cost, schedule, quality, subcontractor performance and safety for assigned ITS work.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of field experience in infrastructure, roadway or bridge construction.
• Familiarity with GDOT projects and knowledge of AASHTO and FHWA standards (a plus).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field offices and job sites.
• Basic knowledge of cost tracking, budget monitoring and field production documentation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with construction software such as Primavera P6, Procore, Bluebeam and HCSS.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and traffic‑control plans.
