Project Engineer - Earthworks

About the role

The Project Engineer – Earthworks will support field operations and engineering coordination for excavation, grading, embankments, and subgrade work on the SR400 Express Lanes Project in Georgia. The role involves short‑term planning, material movement, survey coordination, quantity tracking and technical documentation to ensure crews meet grades and project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Support field execution of clearing, excavation, mass grading, cut‑and‑fill, embankment construction and subgrade preparation.
• Coordinate daily earthwork operations with superintendents, foremen, survey crews, equipment operators, trucking operations and geotechnical personnel.
• Track cut/fill quantities, excavation volumes, borrow and waste material, and maintain earthwork balance.
• Monitor haul operations, truck requirements, loading cycles and production targets.
• Verify subgrade preparation, moisture conditioning, stabilization, compaction and testing.
• Maintain daily production reports, RFIs, quantity records, photographs and as‑built information.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years field experience in infrastructure, roadway or bridge construction.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field offices and job sites.
• Familiarity with GDOT projects and knowledge of AASHTO and FHWA standards is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with construction software such as Primavera P6, Procore, Bluebeam and HCSS.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and traffic control plans.
• Experience with survey coordination, GPS/machine‑control systems and material movement logistics.
• Basic knowledge of cost tracking, budget monitoring and field production documentation.
