Professional Social Service Worker (Part‑time) – Columbus

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a part‑time Professional Social Service Worker to join the West Central Georgia Regional Hospital team in Columbus. Under supervision, you will provide psychosocial support, education, and counseling to patients and families dealing with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses and developmental disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver psychosocial support and counseling to patients, families, and vulnerable populations.
• Provide patient education on disease management and coping strategies.
• Advise caregivers and coordinate referrals to additional social services.
• Maintain accurate documentation of interactions and referrals.
• Comply with required health screenings, vaccinations, and background checks.

Required profile

• Current professional licensure or certification allowing practice in Georgia.
• Ability to work under supervision in a hospital setting.
• Willingness to undergo drug screening, TB evaluation, and annual influenza vaccination.
• Strong communication skills for patient and caregiver interaction.
