Professional Counselor I – University Counseling Center

About the role

The Counseling Center at East Texas A&M University seeks a Professional Counselor I to provide individual, group, and couples counseling for students. The role supports academic success and personal development while contributing to a healthy campus environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual, group, and couples counseling sessions.
• Conduct intakes, screenings, and psychological assessments.
• Deliver crisis intervention services and coordinate referrals.
• Develop and evaluate outreach and prevention programs.
• Consult with faculty, staff, and external partners on student mental‑health needs.
• Maintain client records using the Electronic Medical Records System in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.
• At least one year of counseling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas or eligible for LPC‑Associate status within 90 days.
• Strong organizational, administrative, and communication abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple cases.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records systems.
• Competence in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Knowledge of student development and mental‑health intervention models.
