Professional Advisor – Student Success

About the role

The LSU Alexandria Department of Student Success seeks a Professional Advisor to guide students from matriculation through graduation. The advisor will help students develop study plans, select courses, and explore co‑curricular opportunities while monitoring academic progress.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advising services to prospective and currently enrolled students through in‑person appointments, email, phone, Zoom, group sessions and walk‑ins.
• Guide students in developing a plan of study, selecting courses, scheduling classes and identifying co‑curricular opportunities.
• Monitor advisee progress, generate reports, identify trends and recommend corrective actions for academic or personal difficulties.
• Collaborate with academic departments, deans, chairs and student services to ensure comprehensive support and assist with recruitment and retention efforts.

Required profile

• Baccalaureate degree.
• Minimum one year of related experience.
• Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling or related field and one year experience in higher education student support or retention.
