Product Manufacturing Engineer

About the role

OpenAI’s Hardware organization is building AI‑native silicon and tightly integrated systems for advanced AI workloads. The Product Manufacturing Engineer will drive manufacturing initiatives from concept through mass production, focusing on PCB and PCBA processes. This role is based in San Francisco and works in a hybrid model.

Key responsibilities

• Lead product design and manufacturing processes for next‑generation AI hardware, coordinating with design, operations, TPMs, and external vendors.
• Establish NPI manufacturing processes, systems, and quality controls, defining milestones and deliverables.
• Perform hands‑on manufacturing analysis during design, prototyping, testing, and production phases.
• Research and implement automation techniques and new test systems to improve efficiency.
• Develop and manage overall product manufacturing requirements, schedules, and deliverables across PCB, PCBA, cabling, connectorization, and assembly.
• Communicate with cross‑functional teams, resolve technical issues, and conduct risk assessment and mitigation.

Required profile

• Proven track record of leading complex hardware projects from concept to production launch.
• Experience working with multinational JDM/CM suppliers and managing PCB/PCBA development timelines.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguous, fast‑changing environments.
• Strong analytical mindset for capturing, analyzing, and presenting manufacturing test data.
