Process Technician – 12‑hour rotating shift

About the role

Join BASF’s polymer dispersions plant in Chattanooga, TN, as a Process Technician. You will work on sustainable chemical products used in construction, adhesives, and packaging, operating on a 12‑hour rotating shift schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare solutions from batch sheets, transfer batches, and load/unload chemicals to tanks, trucks, and railcars.
• Operate and monitor basic process controls such as valves, flow, pressure, level, and temperature.
• Use processing equipment including compressors, pumps, reactors, heat exchangers, steam boilers, forklifts, hoists, and flare systems.
• Work in all weather conditions and be willing to rotate between day and night shifts on a 32‑day cycle.
• Provide overtime support, cross‑train in other production areas, and assist with plant troubleshooting and equipment servicing.
• Wear required PPE, including full‑face respirators where applicable.

Required profile

• 2‑year associate/technical degree in Chemical Process Technology or high school diploma with 2 years of relevant chemical/manufacturing experience (or equivalent military/firefighter/mechanical repair experience).
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, SAP) and ability to read and follow operating procedures with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of chemical processing equipment, general chemistry principles, and strong safety focus.
• Accountability for continuous improvement and basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb and stand/walk for at least 8 hours per shift.

Required skills

• Control of valves, flow, pressure, level, and temperature systems.
• Operation of compressors, pumps, reactors, heat exchangers, steam boilers, forklifts, hoists, and flare systems.
• Proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office.
• Use of full‑face respirator and other PPE.
• Basic Lean Six Sigma concepts.
