About the role
Applied Materials is seeking a new‑college graduate with a PhD to join its Semiconductor Product Group as a Process Engineer III in the 2027 Summer Cohort. The role involves designing and optimizing manufacturing processes for display and semiconductor technologies, collecting and analyzing data, and collaborating with R&D teams.
Key responsibilities
- Collect data, analyze results, and compile reports on process engineering experiments.
- Perform hardware characterization on basic systems.
- Troubleshoot problems, conduct root‑cause analysis, and resolve process engineering issues.
- Measure film properties and organize data for review.
- Generate internal documentation, presentations, and technical reports.
- Communicate with customers to resolve process‑related concerns under supervision.
- Work with vendors and suppliers under supervision.
- Become familiar with implementing new technologies, products, and analytical instrumentation.
Required profile
- Doctorate degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
- Experience with one or more semiconductor processes such as CVD, ALD, PVD, etch or epitaxy.
- Experience in material characterization techniques (e.g., FTIR, XPS, XRD).
