Principal Software Engineer – Internal Developer Platform

About the role

The Builders Hub team at Mastercard is creating a unified internal developer portal and platform that will serve all development teams across the company and its acquisitions. As a Principal Software Engineer you will lead the design, implementation and evolution of this platform, ensuring it reduces toil, improves productivity and aligns with Mastercard’s engineering principles.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the end‑to‑end design and delivery of the Internal Developer Portal and Platform.
• Define and enforce patterns, standards and automation for platform integration.
• Build automated mechanisms to ensure compliance with best‑practice standards.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership and mentor software engineers.
• Identify opportunities for reuse, efficiency gains and measurable improvements.
• Collaborate with IT, business partners, product owners and stakeholders to prioritize road‑maps.
• Champion Mastercard’s engineering principles and participate actively in the Software Engineering Guild.
• Define and track behavior‑changing metrics that demonstrate platform impact.

Required profile

• 12+ years of lead software engineering experience.
• Deep, applied knowledge of designing, implementing and supporting internal development platforms in multi‑cloud environments.
• Extensive experience with AWS and Azure services, access controls, integration and automation.
• Strong understanding of cloud security in highly regulated markets.
• Site Reliability Engineering mindset with experience building resilient, observable solutions.
• Proven expertise in automation, observability and Kubernetes (both pure and managed services).
