Principal Power Engineer

About the role

Cowboy Space Corp. is building the power and data infrastructure for the orbital economy. We are looking for a Principal Power Engineer to lead the design of high‑voltage, high‑power DC/DC conversion systems that will power GPU clusters and advanced compute hardware in both terrestrial data centers and space‑based platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise high‑voltage, high‑power DC/DC converter topologies for solar and alternative power sources ranging from multi‑kW to MW scale.
• Develop end‑to‑end power conversion architectures, from power input through multi‑stage distribution to GPU compute nodes for ground and orbital environments.
• Lead custom magnetic component design, including transformers and inductors, to achieve maximum efficiency and thermal performance.
• Conduct power‑integrity analysis and create robust power delivery networks for high‑current GPU power rails.
• Own PCB design and layout for power conversion stages, ensuring signal integrity, thermal management and manufacturability.
• Specify and integrate GPU power‑supply modules, collaborating with GPU suppliers on validation.
• Perform circuit simulation, thermal analysis and validate prototypes through bench testing and field deployment.
• Collaborate with mechanical, thermal and systems engineering teams to optimise overall system performance.
• Establish design standards, best practices and a technical roadmap for power‑electronics platforms.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous technical advancement of the power‑systems team.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience designing high‑power DC/DC converters and magnetic components for demanding applications.
• Strong background in power‑integrity, PCB layout and thermal management.
• Hands‑on experience with circuit simulation and prototype validation.
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and lead technical projects.
