Principal Mechanical Engineer - HVAC

About the role

Parsons is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC design and renovation projects for federal facilities. Based in Kingsport, Tennessee, you will work with BIM specialists and cross‑functional teams to deliver complex mechanical systems for large‑scale infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complex mechanical engineering tasks and ensure accurate, efficient design work.
• Extract engineering information from CAD drawings and prepare computations, material takeoffs, and estimates.
• Develop and issue specifications, data sheets, and construction documents for procurement and installation.
• Provide technical guidance to CAD designers, drafters, and junior engineers.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve design issues.
• Mentor and train junior process engineers.
• Prepare detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.
• Support occasional on‑site construction activities at various locations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Tennessee or ability to obtain.
• Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction sites.
• Ability to obtain a DOE or DOW security clearance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software for mechanical design.
• Experience working with BIM tools and processes.
