About the role
The British Embassy in Washington is seeking a motivated Press Officer to join its high‑performing Communications Team. This position offers hands‑on exposure to international diplomacy, media relations, and the UK‑US partnership, allowing you to develop your communications expertise in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead journalist press accreditation for the embassy.
- Coordinate media briefings, press team events, and meetings.
- Monitor media trends and produce coverage summaries for the embassy and US network.
- Manage press databases, subscription lists, and media monitoring distribution lists.
- Support the Head of Communications and Head of News on newsroom activities and engagement with US media outlets.
- Provide day‑to‑day press support, including administrative assistance for public affairs and press events.
- Identify communication opportunities, media moments, and improvements to monitoring services.
Required profile
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and high‑volume work under tight deadlines.
- Proactive, detail‑oriented, and capable of working with limited supervision.
- Experience in a fast‑paced environment, preferably within communications.
Required skills
- Microsoft Office suite.
- Familiarity with AI platforms such as Microsoft Co‑Pilot and Claude.
