Postdoctoral Researcher – Multiphase Flow & Heat Transfer

About the role

The Louisiana State University seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance research on transient multiphase flow and heat transfer. The work focuses on geothermal engineering, carbon management, and safety‑related CO₂ atmospheric dispersion modeling, supporting both academic and PHMSA‑related projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform research on transient multiphase flow and heat transfer for geothermal engineering and carbon management, including CO₂ transport, injection, and well control.
• Conduct CO₂ atmospheric dispersion modeling for safety and risk studies and develop physics‑based and data‑informed digital twin models for multi‑energy applications.
• Support PHMSA‑related research on shrouding effects in pressurized LNG releases and pipeline leak detection using aerial distributed fiber‑optic sensing.
• Develop and validate simulation workflows, write technical reports and peer‑reviewed publications, present results, and assist in experimental facility development under faculty supervision.

Required profile

• PhD in Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, and heat transfer.
• Strong scientific programming skills in Python, MATLAB and/or C/C++.
• Evidence of peer‑reviewed publications and strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Valid driver’s license.
