Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Neurology (Alcohol‑BBB Study)

About the role

Saint Louis University School of Medicine’s Department of Neurology seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join an NIH‑funded project investigating alcohol‑induced disruption of the blood‑brain barrier. The fellow will work in a multidisciplinary team, applying cutting‑edge techniques to explore lipid signaling pathways and neuroinflammation in mouse models.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion (MCAO) surgeries to model ischemic stroke in mice.
• Conduct biochemical assays to assess lipid signaling, enzyme expression, and oxidative stress markers.
• Execute Western blotting, PCR, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence imaging on brain tissue.
• Coordinate behavioral studies, including Morris Water Maze, Novel Object Recognition, and Fear Conditioning tests.
• Collaborate on experimental design, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.

Required profile

• PhD in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, or a related discipline.
• Experience with MCAO stroke models and mouse surgery.
• Proven track record of first‑author publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within a diverse research team.
