Port Engineer – Fleet/Shipyard Superintendent

About the role

Curtin Maritime is seeking a proactive Port Engineer to support fleet and shipyard operations. This shore‑based position in Long Beach, CA, offers a chance to apply extensive tugboat engineering experience to a broader maritime environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Port Engineer with vessel engineers, shoreside mechanics, and welders.
• Manage vessel drydock periods, track progress, and control budgets.
• Coordinate purchasing for vessel operations and review engineering requisitions.
• Ensure all tasks are entered and tracked in Helm Connect.
• Support development and enforcement of engineering policies and training programs.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of engineering experience on tugboats or similar vessels.
• Ability to handle stressful situations, follow chain of command, and demonstrate strong ownership.
• Physical capability to work in confined spaces, lift up to 50 lb, and operate on barges and ladders.
• Valid TWIC Card.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Helm Connect software.
• Hands‑on mechanical maintenance and drydock management.
• Strong computer and administrative skills for purchasing and documentation.
