Political Intern

About the role

The United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs – Department of Peace Operations is seeking a motivated Political Intern to support the Eastern Europe Team within the Europe and Central Asia Division. This six‑month, full‑time internship offers hands‑on experience in political analysis, briefing preparation, and event coordination at UN Headquarters.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor media reports and track political and security developments across the Eastern Europe region.
• Conduct background research and produce analytical notes on trends and issues.
• Follow and summarize relevant United Nations Security Council and General Assembly meetings.
• Attend meetings and events, preparing concise summary notes.
• Provide logistical support for meetings, workshops, and other events.
• Prepare briefing materials for senior officials.
• Assist the team with any additional tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree, master’s, or Ph.D. program (or equivalent graduate study).
• Field of study closely related to international relations, political science, peace and security, or a similar discipline.
• Strong interest in UN political and peacebuilding work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
