Political Affairs Officer

About the role

The Political Affairs Officer supports the Director of Coordination and Shared Services in managing policy, managerial and political functions for the Under‑Secretaries‑General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations. Working from the United Nations headquarters, the incumbent provides high‑level written products and coordinates information flow across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and edit letters, statements, speeches, talking points, presentations and political updates for the Director and Under‑Secretaries‑General.
• Act as focal point for General Assembly‑mandated DPPA‑DPO reports and deliver secretariat support for town‑hall meetings.
• Produce written outputs such as the Chief of Staff Conference Report and follow‑up on implementation of recommendations.
• Monitor extrabudgetary funds, support outreach and fundraising activities.
• Provide assistance to the Digital Transformation Team and to the focal point for Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
• Manage the Correspondence Team and ensure coordinated information flow within the office.

Required profile

• Proven experience in political affairs, international peace and security or UN coordination.
• Strong written communication and editing skills for high‑level diplomatic documents.
• Ability to work independently and provide consolidated information to senior leadership.
• Experience in managing a small team and handling confidential correspondence.
• Familiarity with extrabudgetary fund monitoring and fundraising processes.
