About the role
The Political Affairs Intern will support the Office of the Assistant Secretary‑General for Mine Action and Police (OMAP) within the Department of Peace Operations. This six‑month, full‑time internship offers hands‑on experience in monitoring political developments, preparing briefing materials, and contributing to UN peace and security initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor activities in relevant countries and regions, identify trends and assess emerging political and operational issues affecting OMAP.
- Attend meetings, take concise notes and draft action points.
- Conduct research on thematic topics such as conflict prevention, rule of law, and women, peace and security.
- Prepare summary reports on developments in inter‑governmental fora and support front‑office priorities.
- Assist in drafting notes, background papers, talking points, presentations and speeches for senior UN officials.
- Support public outreach and digital strategic communications.
- Help plan and implement meetings, events and other activities.
- Coordinate and consolidate information from various offices for reports and submissions in line with UN standards.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or having completed a graduate programme, or in the final academic year of a bachelor’s degree.
- Field of study closely related to political affairs, international relations, peacebuilding, security studies or a similar discipline.
