Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner – Gastroenterology

About the role

This position provides primary and urgent medical management for gastroenterology out‑patient clinics within a collaborative care model. Working under the supervision of the Medical Director and in partnership with physicians, nurses and discharge coordinators, the AP/NP will also contribute to teaching and staff development.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care in the gastroenterology clinic, including assessment, treatment planning, and emergency stabilization.
• Participate in teaching residents, fellows and medical students and support staff education.
• Document clinical encounters, ensure compliance with federal, state and accreditation standards.
• Provide patient and family education, discharge planning, and community outreach as needed.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and departmental protocols.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine, Health Sciences, or graduation from an accredited PA program.
• Active state license as a Physician Assistant, NCCPA certification, and BCLS/ACLS certification.
• Eligibility for prescriptive authority in Louisiana.
• Preferred: minimum three years of related clinical experience.

Required skills

• Computer data‑entry proficiency for electronic health record documentation.
• Experience using Windows‑based applications and related software packages.
