Physical Education Teacher – Elementary

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an enthusiastic Physical Education Teacher to lead elementary‑level PE classes for the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy. This six‑week program supports newly arrived refugee youth, ages 5‑21, in developing academic, social‑emotional, and physical skills.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in mandatory school programming, planning sessions, trainings, and all program meetings.
• Design and deliver a culturally and developmentally responsive PE curriculum focused on team sports and game play.
• Submit lesson plans weekly and utilize multilingual instructional approaches for English Language Learners.
• Collaborate with lead teachers, staff, administrators, and families to monitor and support student progress.
• Maintain a positive classroom climate aligned with Academy philosophy and protocols.
• Provide early‑ and after‑care supervision as needed and substitute for colleagues when required.
• Complete staff surveys and adhere to all IRC policies and protocols.

Required profile

• Experience teaching, leading, or coaching group sports programming.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physical Education or a related field (strongly desired).
• Experience working with English Language Learners or multilingual learners (strongly desired).
• Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds.
