PHE Mechanic

About the role

Alfa Laval is seeking a PHE Mechanic to join its Des Moines facility. The role involves receiving, inspecting, repairing, testing and packaging plate heat exchanger equipment while adhering to quality, safety and SOP standards.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, count, verify, label and store parts; uncrate and remove gaskets.
• Disassemble PHEs, clean units (pressure wash), paint when specified, and rebuild to new standards.
• Perform gasket installation (glue, snap, clip), cure in oven, inspect and stack plates for assembly.
• Conduct dye penetration inspections using black‑light and document findings.
• Complete preliminary, actual and final inspection reports and read PLA/drawings.
• Maintain clean, organized work area following 5S standards and manage supply replenishment.
• Handle shipping, receiving and distribution of Alfa Laval and customer equipment.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated team player aligned with Alfa Laval’s Action, Interaction and Satisfaction values.
• High school diploma or equivalent; experience in a manual shop environment preferred.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, work safely and follow SOPs.

Required skills

• Forklift, hand pallet jack and overhead crane operation.
• Use of measuring devices such as tape measures and depth micrometers.
• Handling of liquid nitrogen for gasket removal.
• Pressure washing, painting and gasket gluing techniques.
• Barcode scanning and basic photographic documentation.
