Pharmacy Student Intern – Cancer Institute (UAMS)

About the role

The Cancer Institute Pharmacy at UAMS is seeking a student employee to work as a pharmacy intern. Under direct supervision of a pharmacist, you will support daily dispensing operations and sterile compounding, including chemotherapy preparations.

Key responsibilities

• Compound sterile preparations and chemotherapy infusions following USP <797> and <800> standards.
• Perform daily and monthly cleaning, decontamination, and disinfection of cleanroom suites.
• Document waste, cleaning activities, temperature logs, and pressure differentials in the electronic medical record.
• Assist with basic pharmaceutical calculations, barcode scanning, and preparation of parenteral medications.
• Troubleshoot drug delivery and equipment issues, calibrate pumps, and report any deficiencies.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an ACPE‑accredited pharmacy program and working toward a Pharmacy Intern License within six months of hire.
• Preferable experience as a pharmacy technician or intern, especially with sterile compounding or hazardous drug handling.
• Strong math skills and ability to follow USP 797/800 regulations.
