Pharmacy Intern – Sterile Compounding (Student Employee)

About the role
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the student employee will support daily dispensing operations in the Cancer Institute Pharmacy. The role focuses on sterile compounding, including chemotherapy infusions, and ensures compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards.
Key responsibilities
- Compound sterile preparations, including hazardous chemotherapy drugs, following validated procedures.
- Perform daily and monthly cleaning, deactivation, and decontamination of cleanroom suites.
- Execute pharmaceutical calculations and barcode scanning to verify component accuracy.
- Document waste, temperature logs, pressure differentials, and cleaning activities in the electronic medical record.
- Prepare batches of IV medications for future patient use under pharmacist verification.
- Troubleshoot drug delivery and equipment issues, calibrate pumps, and perform monthly storage inspections.
- Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to USP 797, USP 800, and institutional policies.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or accepted to an ACPE‑accredited pharmacy program.
- Must obtain a Pharmacy Intern License within six months of hire (or hold a Pharmacy Technician License).
- Relevant pharmacy experience such as hospital or sterile compounding preferred.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and EMR systems; strong math skills.
