PCB Layout Engineer

About the role

The Avionics Team at Cowboy Space Corp. is seeking a PCB Layout Engineer to lead the design and implementation of high‑performance printed circuit boards for spacecraft systems. You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and test engineers to translate schematics into reliable, space‑qualified layouts.

Key responsibilities

• Design complex multilayer PCBs for avionics, power, RF, and compute hardware.
• Define stack‑ups, routing strategies, and impedance control for high‑speed digital interfaces and power distribution networks.
• Perform signal‑integrity, power‑integrity, and EMI/EMC analyses.
• Work with mechanical engineers to ensure proper board fit, thermal performance, and system integration.
• Generate fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing documentation packages.
• Partner with suppliers and contract manufacturers for board fabrication, assembly, and bring‑up.
• Drive DFM, DFA, and DFT best practices throughout the design process.
• Contribute to internal PCB design standards and layout methodologies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• 1‑5+ years of experience in PCB layout for complex electronic systems.
• Proficiency with industry‑standard PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Mentor Graphics.
• Experience designing multilayer boards with controlled impedance, high‑speed interfaces, and dense component placement.
• Solid understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, and EMI/EMC considerations.
• Ability to create manufacturing documentation and support board fabrication and assembly.
