Payment Operations Analyst – New Grad/Early Career

About the role
Payment Operations is a critical pillar of delivering a best‑in‑class banking experience for Column’s customers. As a core member of the growing team, you’ll help scale the payment operations function—designing robust internal processes and providing white‑glove support for payment‑related customer requests. You’ll investigate and resolve issues across ACH, wires, checks, international payments, Real‑Time Payments (RTP) and FedNow while partnering with internal teams and external financial institutions.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement systems to optimize, automate, and scale operational workload using Retool, SQL, Python, and JavaScript.
- Operate and continuously improve end‑to‑end payment operations processes spanning ACH, wire, RTP, FedNow, and checks.
- Manage the payment operations queue—triaging, investigating, and resolving both customer and external bank inquiries.
- Develop and maintain key performance metrics and dashboards to track health and efficiency.
- Partner with Engineering, Business, Compliance, Risk, and Customer teams to ensure accurate and compliant issue resolution.
- Document processes, playbooks, and internal knowledge for onboarding and future scale.
- Identify operational risks and suggest process or tooling improvements.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Lightweight technical skills (SQL, JavaScript, Python) with an aptitude to learn quickly and use AI.
- Familiarity with NACHA operating rules, wire transfer standards, and payment processing concepts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Highly organized, able to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Customer empathy and a bias for action, energized by solving problems and fixing broken processes.
- Willingness to roll up sleeves and build from scratch with minimal oversight.
