Patrol Officer

About the role

The Patrol Officer provides general patrol services for the City of Dayton, responding to calls for service and conducting routine patrols. This safety‑sensitive position requires operating a city vehicle and interacting with the public in a variety of emergency situations.

Key responsibilities

• Arrest and process offenders with outstanding warrants and respond to calls for service as directed.
• Conduct preliminary and full investigations of offenses, collect and preserve evidence at crime scenes and traffic accidents.
• Enforce traffic laws, perform field sobriety tests, issue citations, and direct traffic at accidents, fires, emergencies, and disasters.
• Prepare required reports, including offense, supplemental, DWI, arrest, and juvenile reports.
• Provide assistance to persons in need and work collaboratively with fire, EMS, and other law‑enforcement agencies.

Required profile

• Minimum age of 21, current Texas Peace Officer License (TCOLE) and valid Texas driver’s license.
• No felony convictions or convictions involving moral turpitude; able to pass background investigations and random drug screenings.
• One year of Patrol Officer experience is preferred but not required.

Required skills

• Handgun operation, handcuffs, flashlight, chemical irritant spray, and baton use.
• Operation of vehicle radio, portable radio, spotlight, emergency lights and siren, and two‑way radio.
• Proficiency with office equipment such as computer, printer, fax machine, copier, and calculator.
