About the role
The Marquette City Police Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join its Patrol Officer team. Officers will protect residents, businesses, and visitors by maintaining public safety and enforcing laws across the city.
Key responsibilities
- Patrol assigned streets and roadways on foot, vehicle, or bicycle, monitoring traffic and issuing citations.
- Respond to citizen complaints such as break‑ins, robberies, vandalism, domestic disputes, and assaults; conduct preliminary investigations and prepare reports.
- Enforce Michigan state laws and Marquette city ordinances, and follow up on routine and major investigations.
- Serve subpoenas, warrants, and other legal documents; testify in court when required.
- Handle agency firearms responsibly, including loading, aiming, and firing when justified.
- Assist in crowd control and civil disturbance situations using appropriate tactics.
Required profile
- MCOLES certified or certifiable.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to provide three professional references.
- Willingness to work under the supervision of a shift lieutenant, sergeant, corporal, or senior officer.

- Firearms handling proficiency.
