Patient Services Associate – Women Inpatient Unit

About the role
The Patient Services Associate (PSA) in the Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) Women’s Inpatient Unit provides both clerical and patient‑care support as a trained member of the unit‑based care team. Working under the Clinical Services Manager and the RN, the PSA performs tasks that do not require a licensed practitioner.
Key responsibilities
- Greet patients, families, visitors and staff in a professional, compassionate manner.
- Register patients, verify demographics, insurance and other required information.
- Schedule, reschedule and confirm behavioral health appointments.
- Answer telephone calls, respond to inquiries and direct calls to appropriate staff.
- Coordinate referrals, authorizations, medical records and documentation for patient care.
- Maintain accurate patient information in electronic medical record and scheduling systems.
- Assist with check‑in and check‑out processes, ensuring required forms are completed.
- Collect and process payments according to organizational procedures.
- Communicate with providers, nurses, therapists, social workers, insurers and other departments to coordinate services.
- Recognize and appropriately escalate urgent patient concerns to clinical staff.
Required profile
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in a health‑care or service‑oriented role.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Successful completion of UAMS PCT and PSC courses.
- Completion of UAMS‑sponsored conflict management training within six months of hire.
