Patient Services Associate – Behavioral Health

About the role

The Patient Services Associate (PSA) for the Behavioral Health Service Line supports the General Adult Inpatient Unit by providing both clerical and direct patient‑care assistance. Working under the Clinical Services Manager and the unit RN, the PSA ensures smooth admission, discharge, and daily operations for patients receiving behavioral health services.

Key responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients, families, visitors, and healthcare team members in a respectful and compassionate manner.
• Register patients, verify demographic, insurance, and financial information, and perform check‑in and check‑out procedures.
• Schedule, reschedule, and confirm behavioral health appointments, evaluations, and follow‑up services.
• Answer telephone inquiries, provide information about appointments and department services, and coordinate referrals, authorizations, and medical records.
• Maintain accurate patient data and documentation in the electronic medical record and scheduling systems.
• Collect and process patient payments and explain financial responsibilities.
• Communicate and coordinate care with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, therapists, social workers, and other providers.
• Perform additional clerical and patient‑care tasks as needed.

Required profile

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
• At least one year of experience in a health‑care setting.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Successful completion of UAMS Patient Care Technician (PCT) and Patient Service Coordinator (PSC) courses.
• Ability to complete UAMS‑sponsored conflict‑management training within six months of hire.
• Proof of legal authority to work in the United States.
