Patient Care Technician – Clinical Support

About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works as a trained member of the unit‑based team, supporting the delivery of care identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. Reporting directly to a registered nurse, the PCT performs non‑licensed tasks that contribute to patient safety and comfort.

Key responsibilities

• Prepares treatment rooms for examinations.
• Assists with medical procedures and examinations.
• Conducts patient interviews, measures vital signs and performs phlebotomy.
• Performs EKGs and basic dressing changes.
• Registers and schedules patients using the hospital’s registration systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Successful completion of a patient care technician course within three months of hire.
• Demonstrated proficiency in basic patient care and safety protocols.
• Effective communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to lift 50 lb to waist height and work under pressure.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy (blood draws).
• Electrocardiogram (EKG) operation.
• Vital signs measurement (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height).
• Basic dressing changes.
• Casting and splinting techniques.
