Patent Administrator

About the role

The Patent Administrator supports 3M’s global intellectual property strategy by maintaining patent records and coordinating docket activities across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee a large, business‑wide patent docket in collaboration with the Global Legal Service Center to meet critical deadlines.
• Gather information for US and international patent filings, communicate instructions to patent liaisons, foreign associates, and outside counsel.
• Compose detailed prosecution correspondence and analyze incoming patent communications to determine appropriate actions.
• Coordinate worldwide patent dockets, prepare reports, and respond to client inquiries.
• Use public databases to track non‑3M patents for IP agreements or litigation and propose process improvements.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED or higher (verified prior to start).
• Minimum five (5) years of IP administrative experience in a private, public, government, or military environment.

Required skills

• Experience with an IP Management System, preferably Anaqua.
• Familiarity with patent laws and procedures across multiple geographies.
