Job description
University Health Services at Texas A&M University seeks a Paramedic II to provide the highest level of emergency technical assistance, including patient transport, within its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program. The role involves direct patient care, coordination with medical control, and support for University Health Services scheduling when not engaged in EMS operations.
- Assess illness or injury, prioritize medical procedures, and administer initial treatment at emergency scenes.
- Perform basic and advanced life support, record vital signs, and transport patients to treatment centers.
- Assist in extricating trapped victims and serve as Medical Scene Commander for multiple‑casualty incidents.
- Observe, record, and report patient conditions and reactions to treatments to Medical Control.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and follow protocols set by the Emergency Physicians Advisory Board.
- Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to crew members and new medics.
- Prepare EMS run reports, participate in QA/QI activities, and ensure vehicle and equipment readiness.
- Monitor communication equipment, manage inventory, and submit supply requests.
- Assist University Health Services with medically appropriate scheduling of patient appointments when not on EMS duty.
- High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of an approved Paramedic Training Program.
- Five years’ experience as an EMT (Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic) with an accredited provider.
- Current Texas EMT‑P certification or Paramedic licensure.
- Current AHA ACLS, AHA BLS, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications.
- Ability to obtain Basic Trauma Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications within six months of employment.
- Valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
