Paralegal – Opportunity Under Law

About the role

Public Counsel’s Opportunity Under Law (OUL) team is seeking a dedicated Paralegal to provide litigation support for its impact litigation portfolio. Working closely with the Program Manager, you will help advance civil‑rights and economic‑justice cases across California and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and track litigation deadlines for complex federal and state impact cases.
• Prepare and organize pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other court documents.
• Conduct legal research on civil‑rights, housing, education, and immigration issues.
• Maintain accurate case files and document management systems.
• Assist in identifying and developing new impact‑litigation opportunities.
• Collaborate with the Director of Litigation, Managing Attorney, project staff, and volunteer attorneys.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in legal studies or related field.
• Prior experience as a paralegal in civil‑rights, public‑interest, or impact litigation.
• Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
• Commitment to advancing racial, economic, and social justice.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced nonprofit environment.
