About the role
The Orthopedic Technician supports physicians and clinical staff in the TOSH Specialty Clinic by providing hands‑on assistance with casts, splints, braces and other orthopedic devices. The role involves preparing patients for procedures, educating them on device care, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.
Key responsibilities
- Apply, remove, and maintain casts, splints, braces, immobilizers, and traction equipment according to provider orders.
- Prepare patients and equipment for orthopedic procedures while maintaining patient safety, privacy, and comfort.
- Educate patients and families on proper care of casts, braces, and durable medical equipment, including activity restrictions and warning signs.
- Assist with wound care, orthopedic dressings, and fracture management, including preparation for reductions.
- Provide instruction on the use of crutches, walkers, canes, and other durable medical equipment.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least one year of direct patient‑care experience in a clinical setting.
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
Required skills
- Cast, splint and brace application and removal.
- Orthopedic device maintenance and traction equipment handling.
- Patient education on orthopedic device care and durable medical equipment use.
- Basic wound‑care assistance.
