Operations Manager – Space Institute

About the role

The Operations Manager leads facility operations, maintenance, and infrastructure support for the Texas A&M University Space Institute in Houston. This role ensures the building is safe, secure, functional, and ready to support a dynamic, multi‑tenant research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preventative, corrective and planned maintenance of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, custodial and grounds systems.
• Manage day‑to‑day facility operations, ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations.
• Serve as primary contact for facility issues and service requests, coordinating timely resolution.
• Coordinate vendor services, contractors and maintenance providers, ensuring quality and compliance.
• Lead safety, emergency preparedness and business continuity activities, including training and drills.
• Maintain building access control, key management, badging and tenant onboarding processes.
• Support operation and reconfiguration of specialty environments such as Moon and Mars analog scapes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in facility operations, maintenance or project coordination.

Required skills

• Knowledge of building systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC).
• Experience with maintenance practices and safety standards.
• Ability to coordinate vendors, service contracts and multi‑tenant facilities.
