Open Records Analyst (Level 1)

About the role

The Open Records Analyst 1 supports the Department of Public Safety by receiving, reviewing, and responding to requests for records under the Georgia Open Records Act. The role focuses on high‑volume requests involving citations, incident reports, crash reports, and other law‑enforcement documents, ensuring timely and compliant disclosure.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a working knowledge of the Georgia Open Records Act and related departmental training.
• Identify, locate, and retrieve records from various departmental systems and custodians.
• Evaluate each request to determine scope, volume, and statutory response deadlines.
• Communicate with requesters to clarify needs and provide status updates.
• Apply required redactions and assess records for releasability based on state and federal confidentiality rules.
• Prepare production timeframes and cost estimates when statutory deadlines cannot be met.
• Utilize proprietary departmental databases to ensure accuracy and completeness of delivered records.

Required profile

• Non‑exempt status with ability to meet statutory deadlines.
• Strong knowledge of the Georgia Open Records Act and departmental record‑keeping practices.
• Familiarity with Department of Public Safety divisions, programs, and record systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle high‑volume workloads.
