On-Call News Host

About the role

KNKX, a public media outlet serving the Puget Sound region, is seeking part‑time, on‑call hosts to deliver local newscasts. Hosts will step in for regular staff during weekday mornings, afternoons, and weekend mornings, working from the Seattle or Tacoma studios.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver accurate, timely local newscasts that transition smoothly with NPR programming.
• Announce weather, emergency alerts, station IDs, and promotional spots during breaks.
• Read or record underwriting copy for live or future use.
• Operate the broadcast console, Emergency Alert System (EAS) equipment, and studio recording/editing tools.
• Occasionally participate in on‑air fundraising efforts.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• On‑air broadcast experience with a clear, authoritative voice.
• Strong news judgment and familiarity with the Seattle‑Tacoma region.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain high accuracy.
• Attention to detail in pronunciation and copy preparation.
• Understanding of journalistic ethics and standards.
• Team‑oriented mindset and effective communication skills.
