Job description
About the role
Airbus is seeking a hands‑on Network & Cybersecurity Engineer to ensure the stability, security and real‑time diagnostics of communications linking Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to ground control stations. The role blends tactical field networking with enterprise‑grade VPN, firewall and wireless design in challenging, high‑latency environments.
Key responsibilities
- Design and evolve network architecture across VPNs, firewalls, RF relays, Starlink links and Ground Control Station connectivity, ensuring scalability as the fleet grows.
- Configure and maintain VPN servers/clients, firewalls, routing and related services on mixed Windows and Linux platforms.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues—including degraded RF/satellite links, latency, packet loss and routing problems—primarily through remote troubleshooting.
- Establish monitoring, logging and alerting pipelines; develop diagnostic dashboards for operators.
- Apply secure network design practices, harden devices, support vulnerability remediation and maintain standardized security documentation.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related field.
- Minimum five years of hands‑on network engineering or field communications experience, not limited to help‑desk support.
- Proven experience configuring and troubleshooting VPNs, firewalls and routing on both Windows and Linux environments.
- Experience with wireless/RF networking and satellite communications (e.g., Starlink, VSAT) in degraded or high‑latency conditions.
Required skills
- VPN technologies (n2n or similar peer‑to‑peer architectures).
- Firewall platforms: pfSense, iptables/nftables, Windows Defender Firewall/Advanced Security.
- Scripting/automation with PowerShell and/or Python.
- TCP/IP fundamentals: routing, subnetting, NAT, DNS, DHCP.
- Wireless/RF and satellite communications (Starlink, VSAT).
- Network monitoring, logging and alerting tools.
- Security baselines and hardening (DoD RMF, NIST SP 800‑53, DISI STIGs preferred).
What we offer
- Competitive base salary with incentive compensation, profit‑sharing possibilities and participation in an ESOP.
- Comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, plus an Employee Assistance Program.
- Paid time off, generous parental leave and a flexible work environment in the Columbia River Gorge.
