Neonatal NP/PA – Complex Care Unit

About the role

The Neonatal NP/PA provides advanced medical management for critically ill neonates and infants in Ochsner's Complex Care Unit. The role includes 24/7 in‑house coverage for the NICU and high‑risk deliveries, as well as emergency stabilization and transport of neonatal patients.

Key responsibilities

• Primary medical management and emergency stabilization of critically ill neonates.
• Emergency transport of neonatal patients.
• Preceptorship of NNP students and teaching of NICU residents.
• Staff development, education, and parental education.
• Discharge planning and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
• Participating in outcome data collection and daily rounds.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in nursing (NNP) or Physician Assistant degree with neonatal fellowship.
• 2 years related nursing experience (NNP) or 3 years NICU experience (PA).
• Current APRN Nurse Practitioner license (NNP) or PA license in the state of practice.
• National certifications: NCC (NNP) or NCCPA (PA), BLS, NRP, S.T.A.B.L.E.
• Eligibility for prescriptive authority as defined by the State Board of Medical Examiners.
