ML Research Engineer – Data (Member of Technical Staff)

About the role

Liquid AI’s Data team builds and curates high‑quality datasets that power foundation models across vision, audio, and multimodal domains. As a Member of Technical Staff – ML Research Engineer, you will design and operate data pipelines, generate synthetic data, and evaluate how data choices impact model performance.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable data processing, filtering, and selection pipelines.
• Create datasets for pre‑training, mid‑training, supervised fine‑tuning (SFT), and preference optimization.
• Design synthetic data generation systems using LLMs, structured prompting, and domain‑specific generators.
• Develop and run evaluations and ablations to measure dataset impact on model quality.
• Monitor public datasets across text, vision, and audio domains.
• Collaborate with pre‑training, vision, and audio teams to meet modality‑specific data needs.

Required profile

• Think like a researcher and ship like an engineer – form hypotheses, run experiments, and deliver production‑ready systems.
• Learn quickly and adapt to evolving modalities and ambiguous problems.
• Obsess over data quality, including filtering, deduplication, augmentation, and evaluation.
• Work independently while collaborating closely with training groups.

Required skills

• Strong Python programming skills.
• Solid ML fundamentals and experience training/evaluating models (PyTorch preferred).
• 3+ years of relevant experience with an M.S. (or 1+ year with a Ph.D., or 5+ years with a B.S.).
