Mid-Level APRN/PA – Behavioral Health Consult Liaison

About the role

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) will support the Behavioral Health Service Line Consult Liaison service at UAMS. Working closely with psychiatrists, the role enhances patient care by conducting assessments, ordering labs, and delivering direct treatment across the health system.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive behavioral health assessments, diagnoses, treatment planning, and follow‑up care within scope of practice.
• Obtain and document detailed psychiatric and medical histories, perform mental status examinations, and assess risk factors such as suicidal or homicidal ideation.
• Prescribe, administer, and manage psychiatric medications, monitoring effectiveness, side effects, and patient adherence.
• Respond to psychiatric emergencies and acute safety concerns, adjusting treatment plans as clinically indicated.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate labs, consultations, and ongoing patient management.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Master’s degree in Nursing and a current Arkansas RN license, OR a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies with Arkansas PA registration.
• APRN license in Psychiatry (PMHNP) with national certification, OR PA certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Prescriptive authority and DEA registration to be obtained after hire.
• Preferred: inpatient psychiatry experience and current BLS certification.
