Mid-Level APRN/PA – Behavioral Health Consult Liaison

About the role

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) will support the Behavioral Health Service Line Consult Liaison service at UAMS. This role augments psychiatrist care by collecting data, ordering labs, and providing direct patient care across the health system.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive behavioral health assessments, diagnoses, treatment, and follow‑up within scope of practice.
• Obtain and document detailed psychiatric and medical histories, including risk factors and substance use.
• Perform mental status examinations and evaluate patients for depression, anxiety, psychosis, suicidal or homicidal ideation, and other conditions.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and evidence‑based practices.
• Prescribe, administer, and manage psychiatric and other medications in compliance with laws and protocols.
• Monitor medication effectiveness, adverse effects, interactions, and patient adherence, adjusting treatment as needed.
• Provide ongoing psychiatric and medical follow‑up, modifying plans according to patient progress.
• Identify and respond to psychiatric emergencies and acute safety concerns.
• Perform additional duties as required to support patient care.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Master’s degree in Nursing, current Arkansas RN license, APRN license (PMHNP) and national certification, OR a Master’s in Physician Assistant studies with Arkansas PA registration and national certification.
• Prescriptive authority and DEA registration to be obtained after hire.
• Preferred: inpatient psychiatry experience and current BLS certification.
