Medical Director, Hereditary Cancer & High-Risk Program

About the role

The Medical Director will lead Ochsner's Hereditary Cancer and High‑Risk Program, shaping clinical strategy, expanding services, and integrating genetics, prevention and early detection into routine care for patients at elevated cancer risk.

Key responsibilities

• Clinical leadership: provide direct oversight of the hereditary cancer clinic, ensure patient‑centered care, supervise APPs and genetic counselors, and review complex cases.
• Program development & strategy: design and scale the hereditary cancer program, create clinical workflows, and implement standardized algorithms for syndromes such as BRCA‑related cancers, Lynch syndrome, and FAP.
• Multidisciplinary collaboration & referral development: build referral networks with primary care, oncology, surgery, gastroenterology and other specialties, and educate providers on referral criteria and testing indications.
• Operational oversight: manage staffing models, clinic capacity, workflow optimization, and monitor performance metrics such as referral volume and testing uptake.
• Research, innovation & education: identify clinical research opportunities, participate in trials, and develop educational initiatives for providers, trainees and patients.

Required profile

• MD or DO with board certification in oncology, medical genetics, internal medicine or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in hereditary cancer syndromes, cancer risk assessment and preventive oncology.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams that include advanced practice providers and genetic counselors.
• Proven track record in program development, clinical leadership or service‑line growth.
• Strong understanding of genetic testing technologies, NCCN guidelines and risk‑management strategies.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Louisiana.
