Medical Assistant

About the role

Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH), a Federally Qualified Health Center founded in 1989 and serving over 28,000 patients across eight health centers, is hiring a Medical Assistant. The MA provides the initial screening of patients by collecting vitals and health history during rooming, so the clinical team can deliver primary and preventative care. The position is shared with the Ovid Community Health location; applicants need reliable transportation and must be willing to travel between sites.

Key responsibilities

• Clinical floor operations: prepare the clinical area for opening and closing, clean and sterilize instruments and equipment, restock rooms and assess inventory
• Quality control: monthly control testing and equipment inspections
• Attend the morning huddle with the patient care team and review patient information before visits
• Clinical services: obtain vitals and history, notify providers of abnormal findings, assist with minor procedures and exams, perform patient screenings, complete phlebotomy and lab collection, and inform patients of physician orders and test results
• Medical records: scan documents into the patient chart, chart referrals, screenings, lab orders and results, and enter telephone encounters in the electronic health record

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• CPR certification required
• Prior experience is a plus but not required
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings
• Fluent Spanish and English preferred but not required
• Valid New York State driver's license in line with FLCH drivers' policy
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs, sit for long periods, kneel, crawl or bend, and communicate by phone, web media and in person
