Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer – Fulltime

About the role

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer works independently with staff radiologists to perform advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in a patient‑centered environment. The position also serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students, ensuring high‑quality imaging and compliance with safety protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Verify physician orders and ensure procedural accuracy.
• Operate ultrasound equipment independently, following established protocols and assisting radiologists during guided procedures.
• Review and transmit patient images only after confirming diagnostic quality.
• Complete timely quality‑control and regulatory documentation.
• Maintain departmental operations, including inventory, scheduling, and equipment maintenance.
• Provide clear explanations of procedures to patients and adapt communication to diverse patient populations.

Required profile

• Completion of a CAHEA‑approved diagnostic medical sonography program.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential or eligibility within one year of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computers, software, and web‑based applications.
• Advanced certification in relevant ultrasound specialties as required by the facility.
• Knowledge of abdominal anatomy (liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, pancreas) and ability to perform high‑quality abdominal ultrasound examinations.
• Effective verbal and written communication for presenting information to patients and healthcare team members.
