MAP Design Engineer III – A220

About the role

Airbus is seeking a MAP Design Engineer III to support the A220 family at its Mobile, AL manufacturing facility. The role operates on the final assembly line, providing immediate, high‑quality engineering solutions for primary and secondary structure non‑conformities while ensuring aircraft safety and airworthiness.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, justify, and release technical solutions, repair instructions, and troubleshooting guides for metallic and composite airframe structures.
• Analyze reported malfunctions, launch troubleshooting activities, and document anomalies for design offices and regulatory authorities (EASA, FAA, Transport Canada).
• Act as the interface between the manufacturing floor and Airbus design offices, representing the Single Aisle Chief Engineer.
• Create and monitor corrective actions, including new modifications, drawing updates, and design query notes.
• Prepare temporary aircraft definitions and special instructions in line with airworthiness requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of progressive experience in aircraft structure (airframe) design engineering.
• Eligibility to work in the United States and willingness to travel up to 10% internationally.
• Strong problem‑solving ability, self‑motivation, and willingness to work across traditional boundaries.

Required skills

• Metallic and composite airframe structure design.
• Aircraft systems analysis (engine, fuel, pneumatic, APU, hydraulic, cabin).
• Configuration management and use of aircraft wiring lists, maintenance manuals, and illustrated parts catalogs.
• Non‑conformity analysis and resolution.
• Knowledge of EASA, FAA, and Transport Canada regulatory requirements.
