Manager, Application Development

About the role

The Manager, Application Development will lead the design, development, and maintenance of software solutions that support Santander's strategic initiatives. This role combines project planning, architecture definition, and team leadership to ensure high‑quality, efficient applications that meet business service level agreements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update project plans, including objectives, technologies, schedules, funding, and staffing.
• Design, develop, and maintain software products and systems aligned with client strategies.
• Monitor staff performance and business processes to streamline tasks and introduce new or revised systems.
• Define application architecture and manage the lifecycle of upgrades, improvements, and continuous maintenance.
• Research emerging technologies and best practices to enhance system quality, efficiency, and ROI.
• Lead data‑analysis and application‑integration efforts across the team.
• Maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation for each enhancement or release.
• Ensure adherence to development standards, tools, platforms, and methodologies.
• Track project timelines, deliver status reports, manage issue logs, and produce required documentation.
• Oversee external vendor relationships, reviewing and negotiating contracts as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (required); Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing systems architecture and software design/development.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage complex IT projects.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
