About the role
The Mail Clerk provides courteous front‑line service and ensures efficient handling of all incoming and outgoing mail and packages for Georgetown University. This position supports daily campus operations by maintaining accurate mail flow and delivering items to departments and student locker banks.
Key responsibilities
- Greet customers and visitors in a courteous manner.
- Operate mail service vehicles, including a large box truck, to pick up mail from USPS as needed.
- Receive, scan, sort, and deliver incoming mail and packages while maintaining chain of custody.
- Utilize package tracking software and locker system technology to manage sorting and delivery.
- Deliver mail and packages to assigned university departments and student locker banks according to route instructions.
- Maintain cleanliness of mail service vehicles.
- Perform additional mail‑related duties to support the department’s mission.
Required profile
- High‑school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in a medium to large mailroom, preferably in a university setting.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 70 lb.
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card for vehicles over 10,000 lb.
Required skills
- Proficiency with word processing programs.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets.
- Proficiency with email applications.
- Experience using package tracking software.
- Experience with mobile barcode scanning technology.
