Machinist IV – 2nd Shift (Onsite, Orrville, OH)

About the role

Moog’s Space and Defense Group is seeking an experienced Machinist IV for the 2nd shift at its Orrville, Ohio facility. The role involves operating both manual and CNC machines to produce precision components for aerospace and defense applications.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, load, unload and operate manual and CNC machines, including fixture alignment and tool presetting.
• Adjust machine offsets and dial in fixtures to meet part specifications.
• Troubleshoot setup and production issues, making tooling and machine adjustments as needed.
• Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges and other inspection equipment, documenting any non‑conformances.
• Maintain accurate paperwork and production records.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketch sheets and work orders.
• Coordinate with other shifts, Production Engineering and Quality teams to ensure smooth handovers.
• Operate overhead crane and, when required, run multiple machines simultaneously.
• Train and mentor less‑experienced employees.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (preferred) with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• Minimum five years of hands‑on experience as a machinist.
• Proficiency with hand drills, back spot facer, parts cleaner, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, air gauges, precision pins, height gauges and general hand tools.
